A biotech company has developed a genetically modified corn that will flourish in desert regions with little to zero rainfall. This miracle corn could bring prosperity to the famine-prone regions of the world and generate billions of dollars in profits.
Greedy corporate officers and a corrupt government bureaucrat conspire to plant the corn prior to final testing and USDA approvals, hoping to shut out the competition and drive up the price of their stock.
But the corn mutates and produces a crop containing a strange substance that turns docile animals into deadly killers and restores the telepathic and telekinetic powers that mankind possessed in his distant past.
A HAZMAT team completely destroys all traces of the mutated corn crop but terrorists steal a blood sample containing the deadly substance and hatch a plot to kill several high-ranking government officials.
A romantic relationship develops between Marc Stiles, the lead scientist and Lori Angelopolis, the attractive reporter from the Washington Post. They team up and offer to inject themselves with just enough of the substance to acquire the awesome mental powers necessary to fight the terrorists.
With their help, the FBI and Homeland Security must find a way to neutralize the terrorist threat and make sure that the last of this mind-altering substance is destroyed.
This demon must be put back into Pandora’s Box or an unsuspecting world will descend into anarchy and chaos, overwhelmed by the force of evil minds enhanced by these fearsome powers.

I'm not all that sure what the author was trying to push in this book, anti-evolution, pro intelligent design, anti-GMO, divine destiny or something else. Or whether all of these elements were just plot devices.The book is a decent read, the romance seems a bit pushed (divinely inspired?), and the science for infection containment and eradication is just not there.
This could have been an outstanding thriller with all the goings on in the story.

I'm not all that sure what the author was trying to push in this book, anti-evolution, pro intelligent design, anti-GMO, divine destiny or something else. Or whether all of these elements were just plot devices.
The book is a decent read, the romance seems a bit pushed (divinely inspired?), and the science for infection containment and eradication is just not there.
This could have been an outstanding thriller with all the goings on in the story.
